Global Tamil Forum (GTF) praises the adoption of the latest UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution on Sri Lanka, which is a significant and historic step towards achieving truth, accountability and justice for the victims of the armed conflict on the island. International community must make it absolutely clear to President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government what the consequences will be if they do not co-operate and/or wilfully obstruct the investigation. Since inception GTF has consistently called for an independent international investigation of alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by both sides to the armed conflict, which ended in May 2009. As an independent international investigative mechanism, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has been authorised to conduct a comprehensive inquiry in Sri Lanka, which will investigate the allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by both the Sri Lankan military and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) forces in the last years of the civil war. Tamils across the world are thankful to the United States for leading the three resolutions on Sri Lanka at the UNHRC, since 2012, and to all those co-sponsors and voting members of the Council who supported the resolution. GTF is also grateful to the role the UK Government has played, particularly the UK Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Mr David Cameron MP, for raising international awareness of the current plight of the Tamil people in the island during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka last November and since that time. We understand the hard work and commitment that has been undertaken by many diplomatic staff from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the United States State Department and elsewhere to make this resolution a success.

அனைத்துலகப் பெண்கள் நாள் (International Women's Day) ஆண்டு தோறும் மார்ச் 8 ஆம் திகதியன்று உலகெங்கும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் அவையால் அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட இந்த நாளில் பல நாடுகளில் பொது விடுமுறை நாளாகும்.

வரலாறு
1789 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் 14 ஆம் திகதி சுதந்திரத்துவம், சமத்துவம், பிரநிதிநித்துவம் என்ற கோரிக்கைகளை முன்வைத்து பிரெஞ்சுப் புரட்சியின் போது பாரிஸில் உள்ள பெண்கள் போர்க்கொடி உயர்த்தினர். ஆணுக்கு நிகராக பெண்கள் இந்தச் சமுதாயத்தில் உரிமைகள் பெற வேண்டும் என்றும், வேலைக்கேற்ற ஊதியம், எட்டு மணிநேர வேலை, பெண்களுக்கு வாக்குரிமை, பெண்கள் பெண்ணடிமைகளாக நடத்தப்படுவதிலிருந்து விடுதலை வேண்டும் என்றும் பெண்கள் கிளர்ச்சிகளில் ஈடுபட்டனர். கையில் கிடைத்த ஆயுதங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு பாரிஸ் நகரத் தெருக்களில் அணி திரண்டனர். புயலாகக் கிளம்பிய பூவையரை துரும்பாக எண்ணிய அந்நாட்டு அரசன் இடியென முழங்கி, இவர்களை என் அதிகாரம் கொண்டு அடக்குவேன் என்றும், ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபடுவோரைக் கைது செய்வேன் எனவும் அறிவித்தான்.ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பெண்கள் கூட்டம். அவர்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக ஆண்களும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கில் கலந்து கொள்ள உற்சாகம் கரைபுரள கோஷங்கள் வானைப் பிளக்க அரச மாளிகை நோக்கி ஊர்வலம் கொட்டும் மழையில் ஊர்ந்து சென்றது. அரச மாளிகை முன்பு ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட அனைவரையும் கைது செய்வோம் என்று மிரட்டிய அரசனின் மெய்க்காப்பாளர் இருவரையும் திடீரென கூட்டத்தினர் பாய்ந்து தாக்கிக் கொன்றனர். இதை எதிர்பாராத அரசன் அதிர்ந்து போனான். கோரிக்கைகளை கண்டிப்பாக பரிசீலிப்பேன். உங்களுக்குச் சாதகமாக அறிவிப்பேன் என்று ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் கொதித்தெழுந்தவர்களைச் சமாதானப் படுத்தினான். இயலாது போகவும், அரசன் லூயிஸ் பிலிப் முடிதுறந்தான். இந்தச் செய்தி ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளில் வேகமாகப் பரவிட அங்கும் பெண்கள் போராட்டங்களில் ஈடுபட்டனர். தொடர்ந்து கிரீஸில் லிசிஸ்ட்ரடா தலைமையில் ஜெர்மனி, ஆஸ்திரியா, டென்மார்க் நாடுகளைச் சேர்ந்த பெண் பிரதிநிதிகள் கலந்துகொண்டு தொடர் போராட்டங்களில் ஈடுபட ஆளும் வர்க்கம் அசைந்து கொடுக்கத் தொடங்கியது. இத்தாலியிலும் பெண்கள் இதுதான் சமயம் என்று தங்களது நீண்டநாள் கோரிக்கையான வாக்குரிமையைக் கேட்டு ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களில் இறங்கினர். பிரான்சில், புருஸ்ஸியனில் இரண்டாவது குடியரசை நிறுவிய லூயிஸ் பிளாங்க், பெண்களை அரசவை ஆலோசனைக் குழுக்களில் இடம்பெறச் செய்யவும் பெண்களுக்கு வாக்குரிமை அளிக்கவும் ஒப்புதல் தந்தான். அந்த நாள் 1848 ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்ச் 8ம் நாளாகும். அந்த மார்ச் 8 ஆம் நாள் தான் அனைத்துலக பெண்கள் நாள் உலகெங்கும் அமைய ஒரு வித்தாக அமைந்தது.

ஐ.நா மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவையின் 21வது கூட்டத்தொடர் மிகவும் பரபரப்பான எதிர்பார்ப்புகளுடன், சூடான வாதப்பிரதிவாதங்களுடன் ஆரம்பித்திருக்கிறது. இக்கூட்டத்தொடரில் இலங்கை தொடர்பிலான தங்களது கடுமையான நிலைப்பாட்டினை, அதிருப்தியை சர்வதேச நாடுகள், சர்வதேச மனித உரிமை அமைப்புகள்-ஆர்வலர்கள் வெளிப்படுத்தி வரும் நிலையில், சிறிலங்கா அரசால் இலங்கையில் நிகழ்த்தப்பட்டுள்ள போர்க்குற்றங்கள்,  இனப்படுகொலைகள், சித்திரவதைகள், நீதிக்குப்புறம்பான படுகொலைகள், மனித குலத்துக்கு எதிரான குற்றங்கள், அரசியலுரிமை மற்றும் மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள் தொடர்பாகவும், அனைத்துலக மனித உரிமைச்சட்டங்களும், மனிதாபிமான சட்டங்களும் மீறப்பட்டுள்ளமை தொடர்பாகவும், காத்திரமான அனைத்துல விசாரணைகள் நடத்தப்பட்டு, இலங்கை ஜனாதிபதி, அவரது சகோதரர்கள் மற்றும் சகாக்கள் சர்வதேச போர் குற்றவியல் நீதிமன்றத்தில் நிறுத்தப்பட்டு தண்டிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும், உயிர் வலிக்கும் ரணங்களோடும், கணங்களோடும் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிற பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களுக்கு நீதி தரப்பட வேண்டும். ஜனநாயக உரிமைகள் மதிக்கப்பட்டு நம்பகத்தன்மை ஏற்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்று வலியுறுத்தியும், ஐ.நா மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவையின் 18வது கூட்டத்தொடரின் போது அமெரிக்க அதிபர் பரக் ஒபாமா அவர்களுக்கு இலங்கையைச்சேர்ந்த இளம் ஊடகவியலாளர் அ.ஈழம் சேகுவேரா மனு ஒன்றை அனுப்பி வைத்திருந்தார். “களம் ஓய்ந்திருக்கிறதே ஒழிய, காரணங்கள் அப்படியேத்தான் இருக்கின்றன.” எனும் இலங்கையின் சமகால நிலைவரங்கள் மற்றும் நாட்டு நடப்புகளை முன்னிறுத்தி, காலப்பதிவாக அதன் முழு விவரமும் இங்கு பிரசுரமாகிறது.  குறித்த மனு தொடர்பான உங்கள் கருத்துகள் மற்றும் ஆலோசனைகளை இந்த மின்-அஞ்சல் முகவரி spambots இடமிருந்து பாதுகாக்கப்படுகிறது. இதைப் பார்ப்பதற்குத் தாங்கள் JavaScript-ஐ இயலுமைப்படுத்த வேண்டும்.  எனும் மின்னஞ்சல் முகவரியூடாக பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்.    

February 28, 2014 — Ottawa — More than 19,200 people from 193 countries have become Canadian citizens at citizenship ceremonies held across Canada over the month of February. This is almost 100 percent higher compared to the same period last year (February 2013) when approximately 9,980 people were granted citizenship across Canada. At 220 citizenship ceremonies held across the country this past month, from school gymnasiums, to Citizenship and Immigration offices, to city halls and hotel conference rooms, Canada has welcomed our newest citizens.  These high numbers demonstrate that the system is becoming more efficient and the backlog of citizenship applications is decreasing, helping more people realize their dream of becoming Canadian sooner. The government’s proposed changes in Bill C-24, the Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act, will also reduce wait times by streamlining the decision-making process for citizenship. It is expected that these changes will bring the average processing time for citizenship applications down to under one year and that the current backlog will be reduced by more than 80 percent by 2015-2016. 

"வட கிழக்கில் வாழும் தமிழ்மக்களது அரசியல் மற்றும் பொருண்மிய மேம்பாட்டுக்கு தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு (கனடா) 1990 இல் இருந்து இயன்றளவு உதவி வழங்கி வருகிறது.  போரினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட  தாயக மக்களது வாழ்வாதாரங்களை நாம் மீளக்  கட்டியெழுப்ப வேண்டும். அவர்களை  மீண்டும் தங்கள் சொந்தக் காலில் நிற்க வைக்க வேண்டும். போர் காரணமாக வட கிழக்கில் கணவர்களை இழந்த 89,000 கைம்பெண்களுக்கு மறுவாழ்வு அளிக்க வேண்டும்" இவ்வாறு ததேகூ(கனடா)  இன் இரண்டாவது ஆண்டுப் பொதுக் கூட்டத்தில்  மருத்துவர் வி. சாந்தகுமார் தனது தலைமை உரையில் குறிப்பிட்டார்.   ஆண்டுப் பொதுக் கூட்டம் கடந்த பெப்ரவரி 23 காலை 11.00  மணி தொடக்கம்  பிப 1.00 வரை  ஸ்காபரோ பொது மண்டபத்தில் நடைபெற்றது. தொடர்ந்து பேசுகையில் "எமது அமைப்புக்குள் இளைஞர்களை உள்வாங்க வேண்டும். பல்கலைக் கழக மாணவர்களை சேர்த்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். தமிழின விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்துக்கு நீண்ட கால - 60 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலான வரலாறு உண்டு. அவற்றை எமது இளைய தலைமுறையினரும் படித்து அறிந்து கொள்ள வழிவகைகள் செய்ய வேண்டும். மேலும் கனடா, பிரித்தானியா போல் வெளிநாடுகளில் ததேகூ இன் ஆதரவு அமைப்புக்களை உருவாக்க வேண்டும் " எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

பெப்ரவரி 18,2014- இராஜிவ் காந்தி கொலையில் மரண தண்டனை விதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த  முருகன், சாந்தன், பேரறிவாளன் ஆகியோரது தண்டனையை ஆயுள் தண்டனையாகக் குறைத்து இந்திய உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் வழங்கிய தீர்ப்பை வரவேற்கிறோம். சென்ற மாதம்  உச்சநீதி மன்றம்  வீரப்பன் கூட்டாளிகள் 15 பேர் சமர்ப்பித்த  கருணைமனு மீது முடிவெடுக்க ஏற்பட்ட தாமதம், அவர்களுக்கு விதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த மரண தண்டனையை ஆயுள் தண்டமைனயாகக் குறைக்க ஒரு முகாந்திரமாகக் கருதலாம் என்று கூறி அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கபட்டிருந்த மரண தண்டனையைக் குறைத்திருந்தது. அதே  போல  இராஜிவ் காந்தி கொலைக் குற்றவாளிகள் மனுவையும் விசாரித்த தலைமை நீதியரசர்கள் சதாசிவம்,  இரஞ்சன் கோகாய் மற்றும் சிவகீர்த்தி சிங் ஆகியோரை உள்ளடக்கிய அமர்வு  இந்த வரலாற்றுப் புகழ்படைத்த  தீர்ப்பை வழங்கியுள்ளது. தீர்ப்பில் இந்த வழக்கில் மூவரும் 23 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் சிறையில் தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை கழித்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதால்  குற்றவியல் சட்டத்தின் 432 மற்றும் 433 ஏ  பிரிவுகளின் அடிப்படையில், மாநில அரசு தங்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள அதிகாரத்தின் அடிப்படையிலும் சட்ட அடிப்படையிலும்  இவர்களுடைய சிறை தண்டனை காலத்தை பற்றிய முடிவை எடுக்கலாம் என்று தலைமை நீதிபதி சதாசிவம் கூறி இருந்தார்.

யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் உடற் கூறியல் பிரிவுத் தலைவராகப் பணியாற்றிய ராஜினி திரணகம ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் மனித உரிமைகளுக்காக இறுதிவரை போராடியவர். ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தில் தன்னை ஈடுபடுத்திப் போராடியவர். வெளிநாட்டில் வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு சீரும் சிறப்புமாக வாழ்ந்திருக்கக் கூடியதொரு சூழலில் போர்ச்சூழலில் மூழ்கிக் கிடந்த சொந்த மண்ணுக்குத் திரும்பியவர். போராட்டச் சூழலில் தமிழ் மக்கள்மேல் அனைத்துப் பிரிவினராலும் இழைக்கப்பட்ட மனித உரிமை மீறல்களுக்கெதிராகக் குரல்கொடுத்தவர். அவற்றை 'முறிந்த பனை' என்னும் நூலில் பதிவு செய்தவர். அதன் காரணமாகவே சுட்டுக்கொல்லப்பட்டவர். அவரைக்கொன்றவர்கள் யார் என்பது பற்றிப் பல்வேறு ஊகங்கள் , குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் எழுந்துள்ள போதிலும், இவை யாவும் நிரூபிக்கப்பட்ட குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் அல்ல என்பதால் எம்மாலும் அவ்விதம் குற்றஞ்சாட்ட முடியவில்லை. இவரை யார் படுகொலை செய்திருந்தாலும், ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் போராட்ட வரலாற்றில் அதுவொரு களங்கமாகத்தானிருக்கும். நிராயுதபாணியான பெண்ணொருவர், இரு குழந்தைகளின் தாய், சொந்த மண்ணில் மக்களுக்காக இறுதிவரை குரல் கொடுத்த மனித உரிமைப் போராளி இவ்விதம் சுட்டுக்கொல்லப்பட்டதை ஒருபோதுமே நியாயப் படுத்த முடியாது. இதுபோல் பலர் ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வரலாற்றில் சுட்டுக்கொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கின்றார்கள்; அல்லது காணாமல் போயிருக்கின்றார்கள். ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் உரிமைகளுக்காகப் போராடும் அனைவரும், அமைப்புகளும் இக்காலகட்டத்தில் தமது கடந்த கால வரலாற்றைப் பாரபட்சமின்றிச் சுயபரிசோதனை செய்வது அவசியம். நடந்த தவறுகளுக்குப் பொறுப்பேற்க வேண்டும். அதன் மூலமே ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் உரிமைப்போராட்டத்தின் நேர்மை மேலும் வலுப்படும். தவறுகளுக்காக,  தம்மைத்தாமே மீளாய்வு செய்வதென்பது ஆரோக்கியமானதொரு செயற்பாடு. எதிர்கால முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு மிகவும் அவசியமானதொன்று.

இந்தமுறை இந்தியப் பயணத்தின் போது டேவிட் ஐயாவை சந்திப்பது என தீர்மானித்திருந்தோம். எனது அரசியலும் அவர் மீதான மதிப்பும் நான் அவரை சந்திப்பதற்கான காரணமாகும். ஆனால் துணைவியாருக்கு தூரத்துச் சொந்தம். இருவரது பூர்வீகமும் கரம்பன். ஆகவே அவர் எங்கிருக்கின்றார் என்பதை அவரை முன்பு நேர்காணல் கண்ட அருள் எழிலன் மற்றும் சயந்தன் ஆகியோர் ஊடாக கேட்டு அறிந்து கொண்டோம். டேவிட் ஐயா அவர்கள் அண்ணா நகரில் இருக்கின்றார் எனவும் அங்கே எங்கிருக்கின்றார் என்ற தகவலையும் அருள் ஏழிலன் குறிப்பிட்டார். நன்றி அருள் எழிலன். குறிப்பிட்ட அந்த இடத்திற்கு பாண்டிபாஜாரிலிருந்து பயணத்தை ஆட்டோவில் ஆரம்பித்தோம். அவர் குறிப்பிட்ட இடத்தில் இருந்த தேநீர் கடை முடியிருந்தது. மீண்டும் அவருடன் தொடர்பு கொண்டபோது முன்னால் உள்ள பார்மசியில் மருந்துக் கடையில் கேட்கச் சொன்னார். அவர்களுக்கு தெரியாது என்றார்கள். மீண்டும் புதிய குறிப்பு ஒன்றைக் கூறி பாடசாலைக்கு அருகிலுள்ள விட்டிற்குள் சென்று விசாரிக்க கூறினார். அதேநேரம் வீதியில் சில சிறுவர்கள் விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர்களிடமும் விசாரித்தோம்… “இந்த இடத்தில் தாத்தா ஒருவர் இருக்கின்றாரா.. நீண்ட வெள்ளைத் தாடியுடன்… அவர் ஆங்கில வகுப்புகளும் எடுப்பார்” எனக் கேட்டோம்.

மகிந்தாவும் அவரது அமைச்சர்களும் முதலமைச்சர் விக்னேஸ்வரன் கேட்கும் தன்னாட்சி மற்றும் அதிகாரப் பகிர்வு தொடர்பாக அவரைக் குறைகூறுகிறார்கள். அவர் அப்படிச் செய்வதையிட்டு யார்  முறையிடுகிறார்கள்?  அவர் எதைச் செய்வேன் என்று கூறினாரோ அதையே அவர் செய்கிறார். அவர் என்ன சொன்னார்?  முதலாவதாக 13 ஆவது திருத்த சட்டத்தில்  கணிசமான மாற்றங்களைச் செய்யாவிட்டால் அரசியல் யாப்பை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளமாட்டேன் என்றார். அவர் 13 ஏ அல்லது 13 ஏ  +  இரண்டையும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை.  தீர்வில் எல்எல்ஆர்சி  அறிக்கையில் கூறிய பரிந்துரைகள் அல்லது பேராசிரியர் திஸ்சா விதாரண குழுவின் அறிக்கையில் குறிப்பிட்டவை உள்ளடக்கப் படவேண்டும் என்றார்.  இரண்டாவதாக அய்க்கிய இலங்கைக்குள்  (தமிழர்களுக்கு) சுயநிருணய உரிமை வேண்டும் என்றார். அது கொடுக்கப் படாவிட்டால் உள்நாட்டிலும் பன்னாட்டு அரங்குகளிலும் அயல்நாட்டு உதவியோடு அல்லது உதவி இல்லாமல் முழுமையான சுயநிருணய உரிமைக்குப் போராடுவேன் என்றார்.  மூன்றாவதாக பிரபாகரன் ஒரு தமிழ் மாவீரன் என தமிழ்மக்கள் கருதுகிறார்கள் என்றார்.  முடிவாக மகிந்தா நடத்திய போர் இனப்படுகொலைக்கு ஒப்பானது என்றார்.

“Every February, Canadians mark Black History Month, an important annual celebration of the accomplishments of Canadians who trace their family heritage to Africa and the Caribbean. The proud legacy of black Canadians goes back to the early beginnings of Canadian history. The great sacrifices and tremendous contributions of their community have helped to create the Canada of today.  This year, as we mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War, Black History Month provides an opportunity to recognize the efforts of black Canadian soldiers during these wars, and in other military campaigns.
 
“Canadians should learn more about many inspirational stories of heroism and service, including that of the largely black Number Two Construction Battalion, which proudly served our country during the First World War. Another great story is that of William Hall, the first black recipient of the Victoria Cross. He was also the first Canadian sailor and the first Nova Scotian to receive this honour.  This year, Canada Post’s 2014 Black History Month stamps will honour two historical communities that were located on opposite sides of our country: Africville in Halifax, and Hogan’s Alley in Vancouver. “Both of these communities played significant roles in black Canadian history, and their stories are well worth learning during Black History Month.

தமிழர் தாயகத்தில் நில அபகரிப்பு இடம் பெறுகின்றமையை கண்டித்தும் சர்வதேச சமூகத்துடன் இணைந்து எவ்வாறு அவற்றை வென்றெடுக்க முடியும் என்பது தொடர்பான மாநாடு இரண்டாவது நாளாக இன்று இலண்டனில் இடம்பெற்றது. நிகழ்வின் முதல் அம்சமாக தமிழ் மகா பிரபாகரனின் கடின உழைப்பில் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட 'திஸ் லான்ட் பிலோங்ஸ் ரு ஆமி ' எனும் ஆவணப்படம் காட்சிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. யுத்தத்திற்கு பிந்திய இன்றைய காலகட்டத்தில் தமிழர்களின் பூர்வீக நிலங்கள் எவ்வாறு பேரினவாத அடக்கு முறைக்குட்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன என்பதை காட்சிகள் சித்தரித்திருந்தன. தொடர்ந்து உரை நிகழ்திய இஸ்ரேலிய நாட்டு பேராசிரியர் ஒரின் - நில உரிமைத்துவம் மற்றும் மனித உரிமை சார்ந்த விடயங்கள் குறித்து தெளிவுபடுத்தினார் குறிப்பாக இலங்கையில் தமிழர் தாயகப் பிரதேசத்தில் நில அபகரிப்பின் ஊடாக தமிழர்களது உரிமைகள் எவ்வாறு மீறப்படுகின்றன அவற்றிற்கு தீர்வு காணும் வகையில் அல்லது தடுக்கும் வகையில் சர்வதேச சமுகத்துடன் இணைந்து எவ்வாறான செயற்பாடுகளை முன்னெடுக்க முடியும் என்பது குறித்தும் தெளிவுபடுத்தினார். சர்வதேச தரத்திலான தரவுகள் சட்டம் மற்றும் கோட்பாடு ஆகியவற்றை ஒப்பிட்டு இலங்கை விடயத்தில் எவ்வாறான நடவடிக்கையை மேற்கொள்ளலாம் போன்றவற்றையும் அறிவுறுத்தினார். சேபியா, ஈரான், எஸ்தோனியா, சூடான் மலேசியா துருக்கி இஸ்ரேல் மற்றும் பலஸ்தீனம் ஆகிய நாடுகளில் மக்கள் எதிர் கொண்டிருந்த இவ்வாறான பிரச்சினைகளை உதாரணமாக எடுத்துரைத்து இதன் மூலம் பாதிக்கப்படும் தமிழ் தாயக மக்களை எவ்வாறு காப்பாற்ற முடியும் அல்லது நீதியை பெற்றுக் கொடுக்க முடியும் என்பது குறித்து பரிசீலித்தார்.

Statement — Minister Kenney issues statement to mark Thai Pongal

Ottawa, January 14, 2014 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to mark Thai Pongal: “Today, Tamils around the world begin celebrating the four-day harvest festival of Thai Pongal. “During Thai Pongal – also known as the ‘Festival of the Tamils’ – celebrants traditionally give thanks for a bountiful harvest. Each of the four days of the festival has its own particular significance and characteristic rituals associated with home, family, agriculture and worship. “For Tamils in Canada, India, Sri Lanka, and around the world, Thai Pongal is a time of joy, thanksgiving, reconciliation, and community celebration.  “Over the past three decades, the Tamil-Canadian community has been one of the fastest growing visible minority communities in this country. In that time, Canadians of Tamil origin have made tremendous contributions to our diverse society. “As Minister for Multiculturalism, I offer my warmest wishes to all those celebrating Thai Pongal.  “Thai Piranthal Vali Pirakkum.”

[From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia] Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (Xhosa pronunciation: [xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla]) (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black South African to hold the office, and the first elected in a fully representative, multiracial election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as the President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was the Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999. A Xhosa born to the Thembu royal family, Mandela attended the Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law. Living in Johannesburg, he became involved in anti-colonial politics, joining the ANC and becoming a founding member of its Youth League. After the Afrikaner nationalists of the National Party came to power in 1948 and began implementing the policy of apartheid, he rose to prominence in the ANC's 1952 Defiance Campaign, was elected President of the Transvaal ANC Branch and oversaw the 1955 Congress of the People. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, was prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961 but was found not guilty. Although initially committed to non-violent protest, in association with the South African Communist Party he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961, leading a bombing campaign against government targets. The refugees of Sabapathy Pillai believed David Cameron had been sent by God to help them get their land back. A swarm of Jaffna women stormed through a line of military police to plead for his help in finding their missing loved ones. Yet only a few hours later, the prime minister left a meeting with Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa no closer to securing an investigation into alleged war crimes, or an admission that many Tamils continue to be persecuted. The prime minister arrived at the Commonwealth summit in Colombo on Thursday night, promising to use his trip to highlight human rights abuses in the host country, following fierce criticism of his decision to attend. But as world leaders and royalty, including the Prince of Wales, gathered in the capital for their biennial meeting, Cameron first headed to meet victims of Sri Lanka's 25-year civil war and those suffering continuing violence. An extraordinary 12 hours followed, as the prime minister became the first world leader to travel to the Tamil-dominated north since independence in 1948, before returning to the capital for a planned showdown with Rajapaksa.

Members of the British Tamil community, including British Tamils Forum members, met the UK Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street today to challenge the UK government on its decision to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) that is due to take place in Sri Lanka later this month. The delegation were invited to meet the Prime Minister following sustained calls by many, both within and outside the Tamil community, that the UK Government should follow the Canadian government’s lead and boycott CHOGM 2013 if it takes place in Sri Lanka. The Tamils present at the meeting told the Prime Minister that the UK’s participation in the summit would send a message that the international community is prepared to turn a blind eye while the Sri Lankan state continues to commit the human rights abuses, war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the Tamil people. They also called on the Prime Minister to ensure that – if the meeting does go ahead – the President of Sri Lanka, who is accused of committed serious war crimes, does not become chairperson-in-office of the Commonwealth for the next two years.

Demonstrators from both the British Tamil community and its supporters staged a mass rally to Downing Street today to call on the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, to boycott the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which is due to take place later this month in Sri Lanka. At its peak, almost 4,000 people took part in the rally, waving banners and placards describing the various human rights abuses, war crimes and acts of genocide the Sri Lankan state stands accused of committing against the Tamils. Demonstrators also displayed messages calling on David Cameron and Prince Charles to avoid lending legitimacy to a state that continues to smear “blood on its hands”.

At the end of the procession, six members of British Tamils Forum presented a petition on behalf of the crowd to 10 Downing Street, calling on the Prime Minister to boycott the summit in order to send the strongest possible message that the UK would not tolerate Sri Lanka’s historical and continuing violations of international law. The petition also called for the Commonwealth to suspend Sri Lanka and demanded that those responsible for perpetrating acts of genocide against the Tamil people must be held to account by the international community.

7 October 2013 - Bali, Indonesia -  Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement: “When Sri Lanka was selected to host the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Canada was hopeful that the Sri Lankan government would seize the opportunity to improve human rights conditions and take steps towards reconciliation and accountability. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Canada is deeply concerned about the situation in Sri Lanka. The absence of accountability for the serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian standards during and after the civil war is unacceptable. Canada noted with concern the impeachment of the Sri Lankan Chief Justice earlier this year, and we remain disturbed by ongoing reports of intimidation and incarceration of political leaders and journalists, harassment of minorities, reported disappearances, and allegations of extra judicial killings. Canada believes that if the Commonwealth is to remain relevant it must stand in defence of the basic principles of freedom, democracy, and respect for human dignity, which are the very foundation upon which the Commonwealth was built. It is clear that the Sri Lankan government has failed to uphold the Commonwealth’s core values, which are cherished by Canadians. As such, as the Prime Minister of Canada, I will not attend the 2013 CHOGM in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This is a decision that I do not take lightly.
