Women’s organizations in
the affected countries have requested support to address the immediate
and long term needs of women in the relief and reconstruction efforts.
The purpose of this project
is to guarantee women’s participation and inclusion in the relief and reconstruction
of communities in all countries affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami.
MATCH is having discussions with its overseas partners in Asia and Africa
to obtain an assessment from the point of view of women in these countries.
MATCH is also holding discussions with Canadian women’s organizations,
NGO’s in the overseas development sector, private corporations and federal
agencies to seek their participation and support for the fund.
Since its establishment in
1976, after the 1975 UN Women’s Conference in Mexico City, MATCH International
Centre has worked with over 800 woman-focussed projects in Asia, Africa,
Caribbean and Latin America. MATCH is a registered charity (12303-7939-RR0001)
