Karygiannis visits orphanage
in Jaffna
OTTAWA [January 13, 2005]
- The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, P.C., M.P. visited an orphanage in Jaffna
today. Today Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt,
visited an orphanage with Mr. Anthoney Sellarajah, a Toronto businessman
who sponsors the orphanage through the Foster Parent Association.
The orphanage serves children, who lost their parents as a result of the
civil war, from 14 districts in Jaffna.
This was the first opportunity
Mr. Sellarajah has to visit the orphanage since the tsunami hit on December
26, 2004. The tsunami claimed the lives of twenty-eight children
from the orphanage. Mr. Karygiannis and Mr. Sellarajah gave the children
treats of chocolate and cereal bars.
"It was a very emotional time."
said Mr. Karygiannis. "When they told us of their loss, there were
tears. When we gave the children the treats, there were many smiles.
They thanked us for caring enough to come to see them - again there were
tears."
Mr. Karygiannis continues
his visit to Sri Lanka until the 18th of January, 2005
