Title: Project Co-ordinator
Start Date: Mid-June 2006Purpose of Position:
- To work with the OAWC Project Steering Committee to re-establish the Ontario Association of Women?s Centres as an effective organization.
- To work with the OAWC members to develop an advocacy strategy for the Association.
- To work with the OAWC to develop linkages with
other women?s advocacy organizations in Ontario and Canada
Accountability Responsible to the OAWC Project Steering Committee!
Job Specifications: - To implement the directions of the Steering Committee in order to successfully accomplish the project objectives.
- To request, gather and collate information received from individual women?s centres at the direction of the Steering Committee.
- To organize regional and provincial meetings bringing together women?s centres.
- To organize a provincial conference for OAWC members and other women?s centres.
- To present gathered information to the Steering Committee for its analysis, and assist in the analysis process.
- To search for additional funding sources for the project.
- To prepare written reports, policy positions and strategy documents as directed by the Steering Committee.
- To prepare interim and final reports for the funder(s) as required, and as approved by the Steering Committee.
- To liaise with other women?s advocacy
organizations, as directed by the Steering Committee
Working Conditions:
1. This is a contract to June 2007, funded by Status of Women Canada
2. The position is for 24 hours per week
3. Salary is $22 per hour (including mandatory employer deductions)

Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated experience working with equality seeking issues and advocacy for women
2. Relevant Post secondary diploma or degree and/or related educational, social justice and advocacy experience
3. Understanding of social justice, equality, and women?s issues
4. Related experience in co-ordination of networks, working groups
5. Responsible, reliable, well organized capable of working independently
6. Sensitivity to women?s issues and concerns
7. Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment
8. Clear communicator ? both verbal and written
9. Strong mediation and interpersonal skills
10. Strong computer literacy skills
11. Strong knowledge and/or understanding of funding for women?s services
12. A self starter who is able to work effectively with a steering committee
13. Able to travel within the province occasionally
14. Very comfortable working by email and conference call, accustomed to telecommuting
