Over 200 films and podcasts
for DIGITAL DIVERSITY!
Electronic Media Creation Competition About Immigration!
Montreal
July 26, 2007 – DIGITAL DIVERSITY, Radio Canada International’s nationwide short
film and podcast competition on the theme of immigration is making waves across
the country. Over 200 young creators from coast to coast submitted works in
English and French. Their documentary portraits, fictional tales and animation
shorts provided insightful accounts of the multicultural society that is Canada.
Submissions included gripping stories - some light, others more dramatic - of
immigrants adapting to their new environments, struggling with identity and
dealing with hardships finding work related to their qualifications.
Young creators, aged 18 to 35, were invited to submit a short film or a podcast,
from 3 to 8 minutes, that provided an original look at immigration in Canada.
One hundred English submissions were received, primarily from Vancouver, Toronto
and Montreal but also from Halifax, Calgary and Whitehorse. The French segment
of the competition, MÉTISSÉ SERRÉ, was also a great success.
The English jury of Ruba Nadda, Mitra Sen, Sunny Yi and Alden Habacon will
select the top 60 films to be broadcast online at www.rcinet.ca. The competition
begins September 17th. Two Grand Jury prizes will be awarded for Best Fiction
and Best Documentary. Internet viewers will be invited to rate each short film
and podcast during the elimination rounds in the fall. Their ratings will
determine the People’s Choice Awards.
RCI
viva, the Internet service of Radio Canada International, would like to thank
sponsors Telus and Sony for their contribution. In total, over $25,000 will be
awarded during the competition. Production team: Michel Coulombe, Thierry Harris
and Xuân-Huy Nguyen.
